10 Ways To Keep Your Teeth Healthy & Sparkling White

November 4, 2014

Your oral health is significant. Majorly because consumption ONLY happens through mouth and if it isn’t clean and healthy, one should not expect a fair good health of the rest of the body either. Scientists have proven that people with a good oral hygiene are less susceptible to any kind of diseases and boast of a strong immune system. But alas! It remains the most neglected – partly because we assume that it will clean itself with so much incoming that it does and partly because we are just plain lazy. But chuck the laziness and read on because we have listed 10 easy ways to keep your set of molars and canines sparkling and healthy.

Floss, Brush & Rinse – The cliché advice! For those lazy ones of us, flossing can be cut to only once a day but brushing is compulsorily to happen once you get up from the bed in the morning and once you are going back to it in the night! Your Mamma told you this right when you were a little older than two. If you haven’t paid heed to her, it’s time you take a bow and gather your act. Because dentists all over the world cannot agree more to your Mamma. Rinsing essentially has to be a part of your ritual after every meal, small or large. It helps to get rid of the residue food that is prone to breed bacteria and infest gums.

Brush Appropriately – Use soft bristled tooth brush. Change it at least every two months. Brush for minimum 2 minutes. Ensure your brush reaches every corner of your mouth.

Brushing

Say “No” – Proven it is, that dark liquids like colas, caffeine, red wine leave stains on your whites. Although we agree one cannot say “No” to everything that is dark, we would suggest you limit your consumption. Be aware that this that’s going in, is going to find a way to stay on your teeth and that you may want to get rid of it before it makes some permanent damage. So once you consume something like that, make sure you get up and rinse or at least chew a gum (Please read sugar-free gum).

Cleaning Foods – Taking the above point a little farther we would say eat miracle whitening foods. Like apple, pop corns etc. Food that is generally hard at the surface tends to take away stains with it. So try ending your meals with such foods rather than having desserts as the last. Scientifically it is proven that apart from spoiling oral health, desserts after meal can be a rich source of unwanted fats as well. So consider this exclusion as a dual advantage.

Eat With Teeth – So what if they are pointed and sharp? The Maker never meant use of teeth for opening cola bottles. They were only meant to facilitate eating. So try not using teeth for anything other than that. Such actions may cause enamel erosion and minor fractures in gums. Use a bottle opener for opening bottles and use a knife to cut a fastened rope.

Dentists – No matter how much you hate him, make him your buddy. Visit him regularly for oral check ups so you don’t end up in a mess suddenly once upon a day.

Dentist

DIY – Use baking soda as toothpaste every alternate day. Or salt also works wonders on teeth! Gargle with apple cider vinegar. Also please don’t overdo anything if you like it or it may affect otherwise.

Mouthwash – Make a good alcohol free mouth wash a part of your handbag’s contents. It comes very handy especially outside while rinsing mouth after some heavy staining meal.

Save – If there is a damaged one in your mouth consult your dentist and try saving it. Don’t keep getting rid of it as the first option. The larger the number that stays in your mouth, the better your mouth’s shape will look.

Don’t Procrastinate – If there is a problem, face it. Go right away. Don’t wait for the pain to grow intolerable and then one day there is no option left. This not only calls for more expenses but also more trouble.
